Back to reality. I’m finally back in Texas after an amazing trip to Germany and Austria. Even though I left a crazy amount of work behind, it was the perfect trip just to relax and forget about emails, deadlines and responsibilities for 9 days. While I have so much to post about, I still have to go through over 2,000 photographs first (I was definitely shutter-happy over there). So first, here is a quick post about some of the highlights from our trip… and some “lowlights”.
1. Learning all about BMW during our guided tour at the BMW Museum
2. Having perfect weather in Salzburg
3. Finally crossing off Hallstatt off my bucket list
4. Visiting Germany’s cleanest lake, Lake Konigssee
5. Hiking to the Eiskapelle in Berchtesgaden National Park
6. Experiencing Springfest (Fruhlingsfest) in Munich (by accident)
“Lowlights” is not really the right word to use. I enjoyed every minute of our trip but I can definitely say I loved some parts more than others. The majority of these below are only on the list because Ididn’t get a chance to experience them… which just means I will have to go back one day!
1. Not making it all the way to the Eiskapelle due to snow (but we got close)
2. Being disappointed at Neuschwanstein Castle (looks bigger in pictures… and it’s not even that old, blame it on high expectations?)
3. Not being able to visit the Eagle’s Nest since it is closed until May (but we did get to see it from afar during our boat ride on Lake Konigssee)
4. Not making it to Zugspitze due to time
5. Finding out the Viktualienmarkt in Munich is closed on Sundays
Check back later this week when I finally start posting about our amazing time in Germany and Austria!
Don’t forget to follow along on social media!
Oooo, can't wait to read more about your trip and see your photos! Germany is our favorite European country, probably because we have so many family and friends there. My husband's German home town is only 30-40km from Rothenburg, and it also has its medieval town wall more or less in tact. It's such a great place to visit and experience all the charm of Germany!
Can't wait to see the rest of your posts! I visited that region years back so it's nice to see how it looks like today!!
Such beautiful pics! Can't wait to see and hear more about the trip
Well your highlights made up for some of the not so fun things about your trip. Sounds like you had a great vacation though! So much exploring and enjoying the nature!
Definitely looking forward to reading all about your trip! I'm also interested to see you photos and hear what you have to say about Neuschwanstein Castle, I always had the feeling it looked small in comparison to the hype it has. Still a nice looking castle though 🙂
I always use the term "lowlights" sounds much better than "small things I wish to complain about" haha
I'm totally with you! I can't wait to write my post on Neuschwanstein cause while it is picturesque, I didn't get that "Wow" feeling when we drove up to it. I literally said "That's it?" to my husband in the car lol.
What's funny is that when I was in my 20's, I was all about hanging out in the city and exploring shops and bars… now in my 30's, I was super excited about going hiking and boating lol.
You'll have to make a visit back there Anna! We feel in love with Germany… such a beautiful country (and Austria too). It did get pretty cold the last two days we were there, I wasn't a huge fan of that though lol.
Thanks Chastity! I definitely fell in love with Germany, that's for sure!
That is so awesome, we absolutely loooved Rothenburg. Actually we both fell in love with Germany in general. What is the name of his hometown? How cool is that people actually grow up in places/towns so picturesque!
Sounds like an amazing trip 🙂 Very much looking forward to reading about it!! Your photos look beautiful, I'm all about the 2000 photos from one trip too 😉
Can't wait to hear more about your trip! So glad you guys had a great time though 🙂
Springfest looked like a lot of fun!!

Sounds like a fun trip! I'm going to Bavaria and Salzburg for the first time this summer. Can't wait to read about the rest of the trip!
Aha the part about being disappointed about Neuschwanstein makes me chuckle, sorry 😉 It's really not old at all as far as castles go and I think people would be astonished knowing that most castles are/were way smaller than movies make us believe. Also, in Germany they use the word "Schloss" for it, which isn't really a castle, more ment to be a palace, because by the time it was built castle fortifications for protections weren't really used anymore. It's the dream of one man and I think quite pretty nonetheless. But I had about the same reaction towards the famous balcony of Juliet at Verona/Italy.
Anyway, glad you enjoyed your trip to Germany!
Isn't Hallstatt amazing?!? I really love both Germany and Austria, but I haven't seen much of them yet! Luckily my parents are coming to Prague in June and they want to go to BOTH of those for their side trips haha ;).
you know, i'm living here and haven't visited ANY of those #colormejealous ..I can't wait to read more about your trip..
Yay for your parents visiting and going back to Germany and Austria! Take me with you! lol Hallstatt is a dream! It's beautiful and so relaxing at the same time… perfection! My husband and I both fell in love with that part of the world for sure!
The good news is that those places are pretty much in your backyard! Beats a 10 hour flight to get there lol. Did I read correctly, you guys are moving to Hamburg?
We definitely enjoyed our trip to Germany and Austria… we both fell in love with that area for sure! After seeing all these old towns and castles, learning that Neuschwanstein started construction in 1869, I was like That's it?! lol It's beautiful for sure though!
yes you did, we're going back at the end of May! so they won't be in our backyard much longer! haha I mean, in a way. Hamburg is too far from them.
Wow, what a trip! Can't wait to read more about it! I adore Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and have only been in December, so I'm interested to see your photos of it in spring. And I've heard lots about Hallstatt. It's on my bucket list too, and I haven't gotten to check it off yet! I have to say, I selfishly am a little relieved that Neuschwanstein was disappointing. I tried to go this winter but our car couldn't make it up the hill in the snow. I was really bummed at the time, imagining it covered in a blanket of snow!
Looks like an awesome trip! Germany has always been a place I wanted to visit, it's the next place on my list. And don't you just love accidentally finding a festival like Springfest, I think those are always so fun.
Lol, you'll have different (great) cities in your backyard then! Like Amsterdam!
Yikes just saw this! Neuschwanstein covered in snow would be so gorgeous! It's still a gorgeous castle… but I thought it was going to be bigger and OLDER! That thing is younger than our White House! ha When I go to Germany, I want to see old stuff! lol Hope you are having an amazing time during your tour 🙂
