Girls Weekend | Nassau, Bahamas

Anytime I get to “kill two birds with one stone”, I’m all for it! Beautiful beach getaway + celebrating with my cousin before she gets married = yes, please! I was one of the co-hosts for my cousin’s bachelorette party and she mentioned that she wanted to go somewhere beachy. After looking at airfares and hotels/houses, we decided on Nassau, Bahamas! It is a short flight from Houston (and even shorter flight from her college friends in Atlanta) which meant we could get the most out of our long weekend.

There were 10 girls total for the trip so we decided to rent a house, so we could all stay together. We found this amazing house on VRBO. It is located right on the beach with a pool and has a gated front entrance which was nice for a house full of girls. It was so nice to be right on the water and not have to walk anywhere to get to a beach.

Our first night on the island, we had dinner at the Compass Point Beach Resort. The food there was really good (I recommend it to anyone visiting Nassau) but the best part was their location. We sat outside and got to watch our first Bahamian sunset… and then got attacked by a bat. Yup, a bat flew over to our table and then got stuck under the table and was hitting everyone’s legs. All of us were screaming and all the other tables were laughing and staring. Ain’t no party like a crazy bat party, cause a crazy bat party don’t stop!

Our second day in Nassau, we headed to Paradise Island for our Sandy Toes Excursion to Rose Island, a small island 3 miles east. We got to go snorkeling, hang out on a private beach (the clearest water I have ever seen) and hike around this pretty secluded island. This was probably my favorite part of the entire trip. I can’t get over how pretty the water was there. I would go back to Rose Island in a heart beat! For obvious reasons, I didn’t take my DSLR to the island (I actually didn’t use it much the entire trip) so all these photos were taking from my iPhone.

We got lucky and had sunshine for our entire trip. On our last day, we could see rain out in the distance and it looked pretty intense. Glad it decided to wait until we were done with our Girls Weekend to show up.
Side note: Our second night in Nassau, we had dinner at Cafe Matisse. If you are ever in Nassau, check out this restaurant! When you think Bahamas, you don’t really think Italian food but this place is amazing! One of my friends recommended the restaurant to me and I’m so glad she did. Everyone enjoyed their meal and we still talk about how good their food is today!
Have you been to the Bahamas? What is your favorite spot on the island?

  1. Gah it looks so beautiful! I've always wanted to visit the Bahamas but as a Canadian heading to Mexico or Cuba have always been cheaper options!

  2. Gorgeous photos! I've never been to the Bahamas but I definitely want to go! And yes, this makes my simple bachelorette party look like child's play 🙂 what a fun adventure for all of you!

  3. No, I haven't! A lot of people I know have been and some were even married there! Everyone says it's gorgeous, though people do often complain about the food.

  4. What a great idea for a Bachelorette party! I tried to get my girlfriends to go to Paris for mine ( I was living in England at the time) but no one wanted to leave their kids for a weekend!

I still can't get over the fact that you took all of these photos with your phone!!

  5. Wow, what a great idea for a bachelorette party! Looks like it was a special time to share with your cousin (and the rest of the girls) before her wedding. And those pictures of sunshine and the beach are making me happy on this cold winter day!

  6. I've never been to the Bahamas but a trip to anywhere in the Carribbean is going to beautiful with amazing beaches- such a great part of the world for that and as Americans, I feel so lucky to live (somewhat) near! This makes my bachelorette party I'm planning sound really boring…. I just wanna have it in Seattle because I miss the city but all of the other girls probably wish I would plan something more like this 🙂
